Moodboard

This is the moodboard I created that sums up some of our ideas for our video.

Group Meeting 29/09/2011

Today's Group meeting consisted of us discussing our ideas with the other members of the class and getting feedback on how we could improve our concepts to get the best our of our ideas.

Whilst getting our feedback we noted everything we need to look at to improve our concept. Here's the mindmap we created:

After our first idea, we have thought of instead of having one monster, we could get all band members to keep appearing wearing different costumes, for example a bunny or clown. We then had been suggested to look at the music video I Don't Care, by Fall Out Boy, where each band member starts causing trouble to random people on the streets, and then by the end of the video, the members remove their face mask to reveal them to be a different celebrity. We have discussed this idea and think its a better storyline than what we had before.

After looking at that aspect of the band members, we then went on to the storyline where someone brought up the idea of the film Shrooms after we mentioned the story could be based on drugs. The idea was to have the band slightly psycho at Night Time dressed up in costumes murdering the people they come across. We then linked the idea of having their instruments turn into the weapons they use, for example the microphone cable could be turned into rope, or the drum sticks could turn into a baseball bat.

We're still discussing this idea as we think that this would be a bit too psycho for a music video.

Group Meeting- 26/09/2011

One initial idea for our music video theme for Franko's song "Night Time"would be a horror video. The reason for this is because the song is has a dark tone to it and would suit a horror setting. But the video would also be fast paced because the song is fast. We have thought about a setting for this video, the different locations we would base the video in would be the woods because of this culture around dark haunted woods. We decided that we would use the theme of darkness for this video because it both relates to the title and also the mood of song. We also brainstormed the idea of using a monster that would keep on appearing through the entire video. We then starting researching well known horror villain characters that we could use as inspiration. We then started thinking of narrative that could go along with our performance. We have created a story board that puts our ideas into pictures and also this will show what has influenced use to create our music video.

Copyright

The Band we have decided to use is called Franko, a band signed by a small label called 2DMC, however we got in touch with the band on Youtube via the inboxing service. They gave us permission to use their song, and we look forward to hearing their feedback when we finish our video!

Jack's 3 Initial Ideas

I have been researching ideas for music tracks we could use for our music video project. I have been listening to many different tracks on the Internet through such sites as YouTube and Myspace. I have also been creating plans of what the video would look like. These are the three tracks that have interested me the most:

Stop The War- Ego Trippin
This is a dance song that has interested in because it is has a clear meaning which means that you can fit a video to it nicely. This is a song about war and is strongly influenced by music from the east. My idea for this track would be a narrative video throughout because it is hard to create a performance when its a dance track. The story would be based around war but instead of men fighting eachother with guns, I was thinking that we could use little boys with water pistols. We would base the story around two soldiers (boys) who are fighting together through the war and we would see there fellow soldiers dying. This idea suits the track because this tracks differs in pace so we would be able to fit the story around the pace, this means when the pace slows we can slow down the story but when it picks up again this is when we can add in the war scenes. I have taken great inspiration from the Kasabian video 'Empire' which is also themed around war. I have full permission to use this song as I personally know Ego Trippin and I have asked him for permission myself.

Vintage- Mike Crampton
This another track that I am considering making a music video for. I also know the artist who created this track so I have full permission to use this track. This is a mid paced track that gets faster at some points which means that I can alter the speed of the video. My idea for this video would be to create a conceptual video with some performance aspects added into it. The main lyric in this song is the word 'Always' which is the word I would base the video around. I would also add in the technique of stop start recording into this video where I would get the main actor to hold up a sign saying 'Always' during the chorus and use the stop start technique to transport them to different locations and this would also add a vintage effect to the video which is also the title to the song.

Family- Satellite Stories
Our last initial idea was a track called 'Family' by a band called Satellites Stories. We don't have full permissions to use this track yet, but I have contacted the band asking for permissions. Our idea for this track would both a performance and narrative video type because this a fast up beat song which would be suitable for a narrative video. This track would also be good for a vintage themed video because the style of music. We would base this video heavily around family because this is the title and theme of the overall song. This means that would need lots of natural shots of the band with there family and laughing. We would also take shots of the band performing in different locations because this will make the background more vibrant. We also use lots of warm colours in the video to represent safety which links back to family and this will also give it a vintage feel. I have taken inspiration from Noah and the Whales video to there track '5 Years Time' which uses a warm colours.

Example of a Conceptual Music Video

This is an example of a conceptual music video because it has no direct story but it is linked to the the song. It is linked to the song because the dance is in time with the music and because choreography is linked to the lyrics. An example of this in the video would be when the line 'Who can tell what magic spells we'll be doing for us' is sung in the song JK who is dancing in the video acts as if he is pulling a chair towards him as if he is using magic. But this video isn't copying the lyrics word for word it is very much based on the theme of 'Virtual Insanity' this is portrayed by the floor moving and by animals being added into the video and throughout the video it seems to get more and more insane along with the song itself. But then it calms down at end when the song does so this video is also showing the tempo and pace of the song through the objects that are used.

Jodie's 3 Initial Ideas

I have been researching unsigned bands from YouTube, MySpace, UnsignedBandWeb and other websites trying to fins a good track that would inspire me to create our music video.

My first initial idea would be to use a band called The Caezars, a "Vintage styled Surf-Rock & Rock'n'Roll" band. To my knowledge this band is unsigned but if we decide on using The Caezars, then we will research them further to find out if we could use their track.
The track I like from this band is a track called "She's My Miss".

My second initial idea would be to use a band called Franko, who are unfortunately signed by a small record label. I have sent them an email requesting to use one of their songs. I am still undecided on which track it is I would suggest, but at the moment I would like to use the track "Night Time".

My third initial idea would be to use a band called Satellite Stories, who again to my knowledge are unsigned however if we agree to use their track, we will investigate further and ask their permission to use one of their 3 songs. The song that grabs my attention the most is called "Family"

Example of a Conceptual Music Video

This is an example of a conceptual music video as it has no direct meaning to the song and is only linked through the temp of the song. An example of this was at 1:00 when the female throws the plates at the male, the plates hit his face in sync with the music. There is also no sign of Lip syncing and the storyline doesn't have a direct connection to the lyrics of the song. What I like about this music video is how well rehearsed it is to get all that action in one long frame since it appears they only used one camera angle for the whole footage.
